The simplest recipe I have; and I have had it for many years.  These are great for game day or any day.  Super Simple and Super Yum.

      Ingredients:

  • One package yeast
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  •  4 cups flour
  •  1 egg for brushing each pretzel
  •   Rock salt

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Combine yeast and warm water and stir to dissolve.  Add salt and sugar to combine well.  Blend in flour – I do one at a time to fully incorporate.  With last cup it begins to get sticky, easiest to use hand to combine and begin to knead until smooth.  It does not require resting, but once kneading is done,  I like to take it out of the bowl and let it sit for just a few minutes.  Then, break off small pieces and roll out into long rope.  Twist into pretzel shape and place on baking sheet (you can use parchment paper or I sometimes treat the pan with a touch of oil.  Brush each pretzel with egg and sprinkle with sea or rock salt and bake at 425 degrees for 12- 15 minutes.

ENJOY!
